We had a rough night, followed by a great morning. It seems that Claire is feeling better and hates all the assistance she is getting. She is starving because she still hasn't had a feeding, and last night she took the Cpap off herself no less than 7 times, she ripped her goggles off so many times, they tried to tape them on and she pulled out the tube that runs down the back of her throat to her stomach 4 times. It was brutal. I thought her night nurse might have a nervous breakdown. You have to remember that everytime she does one of these things alrams begin to sound. I sat with my hands in the isolet trying to hold her hands for hours and finally around 2 am the nurse gave up let her sit in my arms in the chair for 2 hours! She took her Cpap off again and the nurse pretended not to notice, but all her levels stayed stable so obviously she was okay without it.
Anyway, this morning the doctors came to see things her way and took her off. They also decided her Jaundice levels were sufficiently low and they took her off the bililight and they started her feedings! I suspect this decision may have been made under the treat of a night nurse strike if they didn't, but I haven't had it confirmed..... She was like a new baby. So calm and peaceful. Her feedings consist of expressed milk fed through the tube down her nose and if she tolerates those they can slowly wean her off IV fluids and hopefully start oral feedings.
