All about Claire- Day 1

The day of Claire's birth was a crazy one.  The timeline went something like this:

6:10 wake up feeling fine grab half a cup coffee and start waking up kids to get ready for Mass.
6:30 hop in the shower
6:35 have first contraction in shower.
6:45 have already had 4 painful contractions. Tell Casey I don't think we will last thru Mass.
6:50 page the midwife and call the rectory to let them know Jackson wont be there to serve.
7:35 arrive at birthing center
7:40 start antibiotic for GBS, already 7cms
8:15 10cms, waiting for second widwife to arrive, first midwife setting up for delivery
8:26 first push, water breaks
8:33 Claire is born!
10:00 call for ambulance
10:04 on her way to the hospital with Casey and midwife
10:10 admitted to the NICU.
At that point things slowed down a little. They stabalized her and started antibiotics but by 1pm her oxygen saturation levels kept coming down and her blood gasses were not good, so they decided to intabate and put her on a ventilator.
By 3 pm our Pastor came to perform an emergency Baptism and things were pretty uncertain. Thankfully, we didn't have a complete picture of how bad things were until they had started to improve.  As early as a few hours after the ventilator went in, she started taking breaths on her own and they were able to dial back the support, which was encouraging. Casey was awesome staying with her the whole time and spending the night in her room,  while I stayed in a post partum room upstairs. Some bright spots that evening were visiting with Aunt Cathy and Uncle Jim and later Grandma and Grandpa bringing the kids to visit. Casey took Grandma and the two older boys down to the Nicu to see her.

Later that night.

Our poor sick girl....
