All About Claire- Day 5

Claire did great in her first 24 hours off the vent and they have the O2 level on her Cpap down to room air. It is still providing her with a small amount of pressure though. Her bleeding seems to have slowed down quite a bit, signaling that she is improving. One bit of reassuring news we got this morning is that her spinal tap results came back normal. Because a baby's blood-brain barrier is underdeveloped, infections can easily spread. The test was brutal to administer (just thinking about it made me cringe) but we understood why it needed to be done. They did it about 10 o'clock last night, and she was not comfortable afterword so we had another sleepless night with her wearing her night nurses down until they put her back in my arms. This one even let her take her cpap off for a few minutes. She was thrilled! I have been put in charge of her diaper changes and taking her temp every four hours, so it is nice to have some "Mommy type" responsibilities. We were hoping she might graduate off the Cpap or photo therapy today but no such luck. They did turn the pressure setting on the Cpap down to it's lowest level to see how she tolerates it though, so if she does well the only thing left is to take it off.
Loving time without the goggles and cpap on
Working on getting rid of her Jaundice induced tan....
