We have been having a very fruitful Advent. One of my favorite priests in Phoenix used to remind me that, although Advent was a time of penance and preparation, it wasn't Lent. "Joyful anticipation!", he used to say. This advent has indeed been one of joyful anticipation. The kids and I have been lighting our Advent wreath each night at dinner and singing verses of "'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." We have also been putting together a Jesse Tree, beginning with Adam and Eve and following Jesus's ancestors through the Old Testament. The older boys have made all the ornments themselves and they are really into it. Probably their favorite thing is following along with the gang over at Holy Heroes. We watch their adorable and informative videos on the computer each night before bed. We have also done plenty of celebrating. The boys woke to find chocolate coins in their shoes on the feast day of St. Nicholas, we enjoyed Mexican food on the feast day of St. Juan Diego, cinnamon buns on St. Lucy's feast day and Mass with the Bishop on the feast day of Saint for which our Parish is named. All in all, a great week to be Catholic!
Above is a picture of our Jesse tree and one of them at a pancake breakfast the knights of Columbus sponsored at our parish. They were a little nervous about going up there so they all went together.
