So for the last four Christmases, we have had an artificial tree. After several moves the lights stopped working and then it finally met it's demise during the pre-move flood of August 2009. So this year we decided to try a real tree again. So a couple Sundays ago Casey and the boys went out ice skating and came back with a Christmas tree tied to the roof. Of course then we had to decide where to put it, how to rearrange the furniture, where to find a tree stand, etc. Plus it was raining and the tree was wet, so we decided to leave it out on the back deck until we were better prepared. By Tuesday, I realized we had to get the tree into water and since it was a nice day I thought I would bring it in. Well, once I shoved it through the door, I realized it was about a foot too tall, so I stuffed it back out the door to trim it. I was bale to cut the top easily enough, but the only saw I could find to cut the bottom would have had trouble cutting through butter. So I tried an ax. No accuracy with an ax so I went back to the saw. Finally after about an hour, I was covered in sap and pine needles and no closer to getting the tree up. So I called a friend who lives nearby and asked to borrow a saw. Finally, I got the tree sawed and into the house but I couldn't get it in the stand. Three children 6 and under are not the help you need when you are trying to get a tree to stand upright. After 4 hours I finally got the tree upright in the stand. It was a major victory. I watered it and left it just like that for a week and a half before the kids pointed out that we hadn't decorated it!
Anyway, I will use better judgment next time before bringing another thing that I have to water and clean up after into the house. Here are some pictures.
