Our first Pilgrimage

For my birthday this year we decided to take a special trip to NY to see the Pope. We left Friday afternoon and drove to Staten Island and then took the Ferry into Manhattan. We had a little dinner and then headed to a candlelight vigil outside of the Pope's hotel room, near Central Park. It was great. There were lots of Religious Sisters and Seminarians there and the average age was probably 30! Tons of young people. They were out in the street singing and waving papal flags for a couple of hours. The highlight of course, was when Pope Benedict came to the window and waved! It was very exciting to be so close to him. Unfortunately, it didn't start until 9pm, so by the time that happened both kids were asleep in their stroller, but hopefully they will get an opportunity to see him at some point. Maybe in Rome.....
